The Practice

When you partner with Sociél Muet Atelier, you partner directly with me.

One strategist. One standard. Present from the first conversation through the final resolution.

There is no handoff to a team. No associate managing the details while I manage the relationship. The person you meet at the beginning of the engagement is the same person guiding the work, asking the questions, identifying the risks, and helping navigate the decisions that follow.

That is not simply how this practice is structured.

It is the reason it exists.

Payroll operations requires context, judgment, and continuity. The details matter. The relationships matter. The decisions matter.

That level of continuity is difficult to delegate.

So I don't.

The How

Operating through two complementary frameworks.

The Planner Preparing Payroll through planning & prevention.

The Mechanic Investigating, stabilizing, and restoring Payroll Operations.

The Mission

To help organizations build payroll operations that support the business through planning, risk prevention, operational oversight, remediation, and cross-functional alignment across HR, Benefits, Legal, Finance, and every function Payroll supports.

The Future

To elevate Payroll Operations into a recognized business discipline by ensuring Payroll has a seat at the table when decisions are made, not simply when they need to be processed.

Some people walk into a room and announce themselves. I never have.

I have always been the person who quietly observes, understands the full picture before saying a word, and then, when the moment calls for it, knows exactly what needs to be done. That is not a strategy. It is simply who I am.

Meet the founder

Cheri Joseph

Payroll Operations Consultant

What has kept me engaged in this work for more than 30 years is that payroll is never only about payroll.

It is about people, systems, compliance, communication, accountability, and the many decisions that happen long before payroll is processed.

Every organization has its own complexities, but the work remains the same: understanding how everything connects, identifying what others often miss, and creating the alignment that allows Payroll to support the business rather than disrupt it.

How My Journey Began.

I have spent more than 30 years in payroll, not because it was the most glamorous field, but because it is one of the most consequential.

Payroll tells a story. Not just about compensation, but about systems, processes, compliance, accountability, and how well an organization functions behind the scenes. I learned to recognize those patterns early, and I never stopped paying attention.

Over the years, I found myself in two familiar places.

In the room before major decisions were made—helping organizations prepare for payroll system implementations, PEO transitions, audits, acquisitions, and operational change.

And back in the room after challenges surfaced—when payroll processes had broken down, compliance concerns emerged, reconciliations didn't reconcile, or operational risk had already become disruption.

That experience ultimately shaped how I work today as The Planner and The Mechanic.

I founded Sociél Muet Atelier to bring together everything I have learned across payroll operations, compliance, systems, and risk management into a practice built on precision, continuity, and trust.

If you found your way here, something likely brought you.

Perhaps you're preparing for a significant decision. Perhaps you're trying to understand a problem that hasn't been fully explained. Or perhaps you simply know something needs attention before it becomes something larger.

Either way, you're here for a reason.

"Whether I help prevent the issue or restore what has already been disrupted, the outcome is the same: You keep moving forward. I stay in the details so you don't have to. I stay in the details so you don't have to."

quiet luxury. measurable results.

My Values

Integrity, discretion, and precision are the foundation of every engagement.

They shape how I assess risk, how I approach complex decisions, how I communicate difficult findings, and how I guide organizations through change.

My clients trust me with sensitive information, critical decisions, and moments where the margin for error is small. I do not take that responsibility lightly.

The work is often quiet. The results are not.

Stronger payroll operations. Reduced operational risk. Greater confidence. Better alignment across the business.
